Alex Garnett (Alto Saxophone), Nick Costley-White (Guitar), Mark Taylor (Drums), TBC (Hammond Organ)

Highly in demand, virtuoso British saxophonist Alex Garnett and his Quartet will be paying homage to the living legend of soul jazz "Papa" Lou Donaldson and his long-term collaboration with Hammond organ great, Jimmy Smith. Lou Donaldson is best known for his soulful, bluesy approach to playing the alto saxophone along with the deep influence of bebop courtesy of Charlie Parker. Lou has always been concerned with pleasing the people and was already reaching out to audiences beyond the realms of hard-core jazz fans, long before the critics coined the term "crossover" music. Garnett follows Lou's ethos.

Bio

Alex has now been living and working professionally as a musician since 1995 enjoying a varied musical career as a jazz artist and session musician covering a variety of stylistic settings. Garnett feels honoured to be amongst the very few UK jazz musicians headlining the current Ronnie Scott’s "All Stars" roster as well as having run his own infamous late show slots for a nine year stretch!

Alex has been a regular sideman choice for American artists touring Europe, and has himself performed in over 30 countries worldwide appearing at such prestigious venues as the Blue Note, the Lincoln centre, Birdland, Porgy and Bess, Room full of Blues and the Sage as well as playing at Umbria Jazz, Cork, Rochester NY, Barcelona, Montreux, and Oslo Jazz Festival, Zermatt Unplugged and the North Sea Jazz Fest, to name but a few.

He has clocked many hours of performance with varied artists that include Seth McFarlane, Ruby Turner, Sam Moore, Jimmy Page, Pee Wee Ellis, John Hendricks, Van Morrison, Mike Gibbs, Wynton Marsalis, Kurt Elling, Humphrey Lyttleton, Doris Troy, Jack Parnell, Scott Hamilton, Carlene Anderson, Houston Person, Jools Holland, Buddy Greco, Sir john Dankworth, Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones and Michele Legrande.

This performance’s prestigious accompanists are all stars in their own rights and accrue accolades that collectively read like a who's who of the top tier performers across the spectrum of music.
