Alex Garnett (tenor saxophone), Liam Dunachie (hammond keys), Nick Costley-White (guitar), David Ingamells (drums).

Alex Garnett, a Ronnie Scott's alumnus returns to Ladbroke Hall with a new line up to celebrate his favourite saxophonist Stanley Turrentine and bring a slice of Soho suave to the occasion.

Turrentine was a legend of the tenor saxophone renowned for his distinctively thick, rippling tone, and earthy grounding in the blues, and his ability to work a groove with soul and imagination. Turrentine recorded in a wide variety of settings but was best-known for his Blue Note soul-jazz jams of the ’60s. He also underwent a popular fusion makeover in the early ’70s. The saxophonist’s debut recording session for Blue Note, was a sideman gig with an organist Jimmy Smith, then leading the Hammond B3 charge in the soul jazz movement.

Evidently, Stanley Turrentine had a thing for organists. So much so, that he married one, the legendary Shirley Scott. The following year he recorded Dearly Beloved, the first of several classic albums, including Never Let Me Go, A Chip Off the Old Block, and Hustlin’. Tonight's music will bring the ethos of Turrentines’ MO, jazz with soul!!
